Vultures In For The Kill This Sunday

"We really do have a long way to go to understand the true meaning of freedom in New Zealand," Libertarianz Deputy Leader Peter Osborne said today, referring to a land access dispute in South Wairarapa currently in the headlines.

"Mr Koers has every right to decide who or who may not enter his property. After all, it is HIS property," Osborne continues. "This disgraceful turn of events is so indicative of our society today. However it comes as no surprise to me, as both local and national governments have passed bylaws on a routine basis over the years that erode property rights and individual freedoms. It seems that this has now rubbed off onto the New Zealand psyche."

"In Mr Koers's situation we have various groups and individuals, namely surfers, the Four Wheel Drive Association, and the Akatarawa Recreation Access Action Committee, who think that they have some moral right to their sport and recreation at the cost of Mr Koers freedom. On top of this, to emphasise just how little we have evolved as a society, it seems that the law is on their side."

Osborne says, "The really sickening thing is that these people have grouped together and are calling themselves 'Freedom Riders' with the intention of driving through Mr Koers property on Sunday without his permission. These people wouldn't know the first thing about freedom. They want their freedom, all right, but at the expense of the freedom of Mr Koers. It disgusts me."

"Property rights are one of the cornerstones of a free society. A government's legitimate role is the protection of individual freedom and the defence of property rights. A Libertarianz government would enshrine this in a constitution, thus disabling intrusive government from eroding this inalienable right. This would ensure that peaceful people such as Mr Koers would be free to decide the fate of THEIR OWN property," Osborne concludes.
