Land Transport Management Bill must change
Road Transport Forum NZ fully supports Business New Zealand’s message that the Land Transport Management Bill must be changed to recognise the importance of transport for economic growth, Road Transport Forum Chief Executive Officer Tony Friedlander says.
“Business New Zealand’s letter to the Chair of the Transport and Industrial Relations Select Committee makes it clear to the committee and the Government that the Bill in its present form is grossly deficient. The fact that Business New Zealand felt moved to take the relatively unusual step of raising its growing concern with the committee in a letter shows the depth of concern within the business community about the economic impact of the Bill as it currently stands.
“The Forum, Business New Zealand
and a wide range of other road user and business
organisations have made constructive proposals for remedying
the Bill’s deficiencies. The Government must heed these
proposals. The Bill will be setting transport policy into
the foreseeable future. It is vitally important the
committee and Government get the Bill right,” Mr Friedlander
says.
