Trust To Manage Red Cross Flood Funds
TRUST TO MANAGE RED CROSS FLOOD FUNDS
Sir Ron Trotter will chair the trustees especially appointed by NZ Red Cross to oversee the distribution of the NZ Red Cross Flood Relief Appeal Fund.
By Monday afternoon (23 February), the appeal had raised $176,000, with further pledges of support likely during the week. Already, NZRC has made $50 and $100 vouchers for bedding and clothing available as a first response, for distribution to affected people where necessary through the existing Civil Defence welfare network.
NZRC Director General, Flora Gilkison, said that she was delighted that Sir Ron had agreed to chair the trust. "Sir Ron Trotter is well-respected both within New Zealand and overseas for his business management skills and acumen. We are sure he will be an ideal person to manage this important task."
"The key function of the trust will be to allocate the funds as quickly and fairly as possible, giving priority to the most urgent cases of distress," she said.
Funding decisions will be made in accordance with the principles of the International Red Cross Movement.
