The Chair of the Wellington Regional Transport Action Group has welcomed the Government’s confirmation that it will be working with Greater Wellington Regional Council to fast-track a transport funding package for Wellington.
Ms Wilde said today that this was a strong initiative on the part of Government and a signal that they are taking Wellington transport problems seriously.
“It is important that the Regional Council and Local Councils collaborate fully in this exercise which provides a great opportunity for the region to solve longstanding problems”, Ms Wilde said.
The Transport Action Group comprises Wellington Regional Chamber of Commerce; Employers and Manufacturers Association (Central), New Zealand Retail Merchants Association; New Zealand Automobile Association; Wellington International Airport Ltd; Centreport Ltd; and the Central Area Road Transport Association.
