TLN delighted with Government support for trade

Media Release - 11 May 2004

Bring it on! TLN delighted with Government support for trade

If our lifestyles are to continue to improve, we need more exporters said Trade Liberalisation Network, Executive Director, Suse Reynolds.

The TLN is therefore delighted with Trade Negotiations Minister, Jim Sutton's, pre-budget announcement of extra funding to promote trade growth.

"Only 150 companies make up 95% of our exports. That is perturbing," said Reynolds.

"If we are really serious about wealth generation we have be committed to export growth and to increasing the number of companies currently exporting.

"New Zealand businesses have every ability to foot it in international markets, but first they need access and often some practical assistance. The extra $2.5 million is just what our Foreign Affairs and Trade negotiators need to help improve market prospects. The new market development funding for Trade and Enterprise ensures that improved access will be used," Reynolds concluded.
