Kiwis love Canada!
On July 1 (Canada Day), as Canada celebrates it’s 137th birthday, a survey of New Zealanders’ opinions of Canada has given “the great white north” something else to celebrate.
Of the 1000 New Zealanders surveyed, 76 per cent associate or strongly associate Canada with caring for the environment, and 70 per cent see Canada as promoting peace and security in the world.
New Zealanders also view Canada as a country that respects minorities (65%), is culturally sophisticated (64%), and has a good influence on the rest of the world (63%).
The survey, which compared how New Zealanders view five countries (Canada, Australia, Germany, the United States of America and Japan) on a range of subjects, also shows that 90 per cent of New Zealanders surveyed want to visit Canada as a tourist.
“New Zealanders clearly have a very positive view of Canada and its people”, said Canadian High Commissioner, John Donaghy.
“New Zealanders and Canadians share similar values and beliefs about society, and we co-operate on a wide range of international issues.”
The large number of Canadians who visit New Zealand annually shows that the positive feelings are reciprocated.
