Commonsense Council slams Doc’c Attitude

NZCCC Chairman Barry Nicolle said today “after watching comments and action by the Department of Conservation’s Greymouth manager Shane hall on the Holmes show last night my estimations of this out of control Govt department has sunk to an all time low!”

NZCCC has in the past steered clear of personalities in the quest for a balance and commonsense with conservation, but last nights display was nothing short of sheer arrogance by Doc’s manager.

Sure, if this “camp” they are hell bent on ripping down was involved with drugs, was a major blot on the landscape or at least was having some detrimental impact on “our” environment, then I would agree, rip it down.

But this “camp” has brought enjoyment to this family and their friends for the past 18 years, it had the potential to continue to provide the same enjoyment to grandchildren for years to come, but no!! This over zealous Dept and its staff seem to be on a mission to destroy this dream.

Mr Nicolle said given the crime stats today we should be fostering families to bring their children up with a care and understanding of our natural environment.

Doc would be far better advised addressing the imbalance that is happening today with the loss of our endangered species rather that crate another endangered species such as this family is fast becoming!

Barry Nicolle

Chairman New Zealand Commonsense Conservation Council
