This week is Clean Up NZ and one of the local candidates has chosen to highlight this in her latest billboard.
Celia Wade-Brown, a Wellington City Councillor and Zero Waste advocate says "65% of people's rubbish in their bags and wheelie bins is recyclable now. Cardboard, paper, tins and some plastics have a market already. Let's not waste energy and landfill space by throwing things away.
This billboard is one of a series she calls "Really Creative Billboards" which are an antidote to the boring plastic clones most others produce. Each is individual and hand painted with a serious issue highlighted in an amusing way.
"Most billboards are boring blots on the urban landscape. I hope these offer a positive image of my principles!"
Other billboards in the series include a washing line for renewable energy, a bicycle for sustainable transport, a framed picture for a gallery and a windowbox for caring for our community.
NB The billboard is in Rintoul St, opposite Wakefield Hospital.
