Doctors demonstration against US UK Unilateralism

Christchurch Doctors organize demonstration against US, British and Australian unilateralism.

Christchurch Hospital Emergency Department Drs. Jeph Mathias and Chris Cresswell, are organizing a demonstration on Monday 27 September to encourage Christchurch residents to act peacefully against today's dangerous unilateralism. Violence for political ends is always unacceptable and a just and multilateral world is achievable they claim.

Actions the pair suggest:
Getting friends, especially in Britain, USA and Australia to vote for justice over self-interest and violence carried out in their names.

Writing to MPs, the Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs saying what our international stance should be and congratulating them when they get it right.

Writing to local and international newspapers.

That people live a peaceful and just lives themselves.

That people join organisations working for a better world, (the pair do not represent any particular organisation).

People educate themselves more widely than just standard media.

The two doctors believe that a boycott of products, brands and companies from USA Australia and Britain is one of several ways ordinary New Zealanders can have some influence on what most New Zealanders regard as international bullying.

Ways in which kiwis can boycott include:
Checking the country of origin of goods in supermarkets and not• buying products from these companies.

Not buying known brands from these• countries even if the products are made in other countries for example clothing and footwear.

Moving mortgages to New Zealand owned banks, rather than the• big four which are taking billions out of the country and only paying 6% tax.

For patients - asking at chemists if medicines can be sourced• from countries other than US, UK or Australia (The patients may get a pleasant surprise by finding their medicines become cheaper, but that's another story).

The demonstration is from 7-9am Monday 27/9/04 at the corner of Hagley and Riccarton Avenues, outside the hospital. Traffic will not be affected. The doctors encourage concerned people of Christchurch to join them at the demonstration to publicise the boycott.
