DESTINY TO TAKE MESSAGE OF FATHERHOOD TO ROTORUA
Destiny New Zealand brings its message of esteeming fathers to Rotorua this weekend with a daylong Hui and a 500-strong kapa haka demonstration.
"A key aspect of our Family Policy involves esteeming and empowering fathers to fulfil their role as leaders and role models in our families and our communities. This is one way we can communicate that message", says party leader Richard Lewis.
The Hui brings together the Destiny NZ Maori delegates who are on a pathway to candidacy for the 2005 election and includes Hawea Vercoe, a local deputy school principal and Destiny NZ delegate for the Maori electorate of Waiariki. Destiny NZ aims to stand candidates in Maori and General electorates this year.
"The kapa haka is a positive way that we can bring men together to celebrate fatherhood and leadership, this is the kind of initiative that has got to be good for whanau and the local community", Lewis added.
The Hui commences at 9.30am on Saturday with a powhiri at Tamatekapua Marae in Rotorua.
