Supporting better urban design
Housing New Zealand supported better urban design today by signing the new Urban Design Protocol.
Prepared by the Ministry for the Environment, the Protocol challenges signatories to say how they will put its seven principles into practice.
General Manager Asset Services Greg Orchard says Housing New Zealand is proud to be involved. “Urban design is an important part of our projects. In our Community Renewal areas, for example, we work with local councils, residents and community groups to create parks, community facilities and shopping areas that make those areas better to be in.
“We are also planning to hold a design competition this year, as part of the Year of the Built Environment 2005 programme. The competition will spark debate about how smarter design can lead to quality, affordable homes,” Greg Orchard said.
Competition details will be announced later
this year.
