Media release Peace Action Network Christchurch 19 March

Cathedral Square, Cashel Mall and Oxford Terrace were the scenes of a "die-in" protest by opponents of the American-led occupation of Iraq.

The protest, attended by 40 people, marked the second anniversary of the invasion of Iraq, on 19 March. "100,000 people were killed in the invasion, more are killed, maimed and tortured every day," said Peace Action Network spokesperson David Colyer.

"There can be no peace until the occupation has ended," Mr Colyer said.

The next Peace Action Network event is "Iraqi Voices", a public meeting where members of Christchurch's Iraqi community will speak out about their country and the American-led occupation.

WEA centre, 59 Gloucester Street, (opposite Art Gallery). 7:30pm, Monday 11 April.
