Locke Foundation Condemns Capill’s Actions

Recently, The Locke Foundation unearthed Unbound, the paedophile publication edited and published by immigrant Jim Peron, tabled by Rt. Hon Winston Peters in Parliament on Tuesday. The foundation wrote a 32 page report documenting the evidence about Mr Peron's involvement and what appears to be deceit by Mr Peron to the New Zealand public and media following the allegations of Peron's past and undeclared links to NAMBLA.

Today it became widely known that the "prominent New Zealander" accused of sexual abuse of a child is Graham Capill, former member and leader of Christian Heritage NZ, who today plead guilty to the charges he faced.

Some board members of the Locke Foundation were policy committee members and spokespersons for Christian Heritage under Capill’s leadership. We unequivocally condemn Capill’s actions. Having spent the past 3 weeks researching paedophilia we find it particularly repugnant that one who held himself out as the champion of virtue has fallen so far and we feel deeply for his victim and her family.

Capill’s actions concerning his victim were his own. They were not the actions of Christian Heritage under his leadership; they were not the actions of the Christian community as a whole; they have no bearing on the merits, or lack thereof, of Christian policy or of those policies promoted by Capill while in leadership of Christian Heritage.

Likewise, the deceit of Jim Peron and his past advocacy that "Gay politicians" should not "throw boylovers to the lions every chance they get ... to prevent children from being abused," were not the actions of the GLBT community. They were not the actions of GayNZ.com for whom Peron wrote or the Libertarian movement. They were neither the actions of, or consistent with the policy of, the Institute for Liberal Values.

As Classical Liberals the Locke Foundation believe that individuals bear responsibility for their own actions and it is unjust to, in a collectivist manner, cast aspersions on whole groups of people, or the policy of those people, on the basis of the actions of a single individual.
