On a soapbox for children’s
rights
Luke Lolesi was standing up for New Zealand children at the launch of Every Child Counts in Auckland today (19 April).
A coalition representing Barnardos, Plunket, Save the Children, Unicef and AUT’s Institute of Public Policy is calling on all political parties to recognise the vital part that children play in the future of New Zealand.
Michael Jones, director of AUT’s Office of Pasifika Advancement, is one of 2000 supporters signed up for the campaign.
Over coming months, Every Child Counts will distribute mini soapboxes to current and prospective politicians and coalition spokesperson, Murray Edridge, says they’ll be following election promises made.
“The voting public needs to know where political parties stand when it comes to children. It’s imperative for the social and economic future of New Zealand that they act on our message.”
