NZ Government Should Offer Refuge To Zimbabwean
“Tony Blair’s right wing Labour Party in Britain is preparing to deport Crespen Kulingi, curently imprisoned in a UK Detention Centre, back to Zimbabwe,” said Paul Piesse, co-leader of the Alliance party today. “Once he is back there, Mugabe’s murderers will doubtless continue the torture he previously suffered in a Harare gaol.”
“If NZ Labour’s Blairites are serious about opposition to the Mugabe régime, Helen Clark and Philip Goff would go beyond merely denying visas to Zimbabwe cricketers, useful as that is,” Paul Piesse said.
“More importantly, they would offer safe refuge in New Zealand to Crespen Kulingi and other activists from Zimbabwe’s democratic opposition – refuge, that is from Mugabe and from Blair’s Labour Government in Britain,” said Paul Piesse.
“That’s what a genuine NZ
Labour Government would do”, he added. “But then, a genuine
Labour Government wouldn’t be trying desperately to deport
another democratic refugee from a brutal dictatorship –
Ahmed Zaoui”.
