The New Zealand Federation of Ethnic Councils is saddened by the attacks on six Auckland Mosques.

“We thought, as a country, we were moving past these demonstrations of racism. I believe in the main we are, and these attacks are the results of a few ignorant people and were malicious and unfortunate” says Mr Pancha Narayanan President of the Federation.

Many people in London and New Zealand are suffering, losing loved ones, seeing loved ones suffer, we must come together and support each other in these times of trouble not single out one sector of the community for blame.

Those who are suffering in London cover the whole spectrum of the community, Christian, Jews, Hindus, Buddhist and Muslim, old, young, rich poor, and from all ethnic groups, there was no discrimination in the London attacks.

The New Zealand attackers are doing the same thing as those they are condemning, except they are singling out one sector of the community which is worse.

“During these terrible times we must all come together and give each other support, not attack on the basis of religion”

The Federation sends its sympathy to all those in London and New Zealand at this time, and urges New Zealanders to act in a true “kiwi” way i.e. to stick together and be one with all” Says Mr Narayanan.
