AA Safer Roads Project Launches Youth Competition

Students are invited to pick up their pens or jump on their computers and design a poster for the AA Safer Roads Project. With three great prize packs to be won who could resist?!

The AA is running the AA Safer Roads Design-a-Poster Competition as part of its nationwide, community-based AA Safer Roads Project.

The AA Safer Roads Project is a road safety initiative focussed on making New Zealand’s roads safer and more ‘forgiving’. The overall aim of the project is to have Safer Drivers in Safer Cars on Safer Roads.

The AA Safer Roads Design-a-Poster Competition runs from July 25 – September 25 and was developed with the aim of engaging students directly with road safety issues. Students are required to design a poster based around potential ‘Roadside Killers’ – elements of New Zealand’s roads that make them less forgiving for drivers than they should be.

Examples of potential ‘Roadside Killers’ include:

- Trees, poles or other object close to the edge of the road

- Broken or narrow road edges and shoulders

- Ineffective barriers separating oncoming traffic

- Drains and gullies at the side of the road without protective barriers

Students are encouraged to use a dangerous road in their local area for inspiration or look at the issue on a national scale.

Prizes include art packs, Vodafone products, and AA Defensive Driving Courses and free AA Membership.
