Hurtful Comments Cause Pain to Minorities

4 August 2005

Press Release: Garnet Milne's Comments regarding Mental Health Problems amongst GLBT community

HappyClappingHomos.com would like to pass comment on the recent press release made by Garnet Milne, from Reformation Testimony Church.

Firstly, we would like to point out to Mr. Milne that comments made by him over the last 12 months in particular where he labels homosexuals as evil, sick, troubled and in need of ‘curing’ go a long way to showing why the study conducted by the Christchurch School of Medicine produced the results that it did.

We further point out to Mr. Milne that given the inflammatory, hurtful, and rather sickening comments he has made with respect to homosexual youth, he bears a degree of responsibility for the studies outcome. We also like to remind Mr Milne that comments such as his do nothing to drive down suicide figures amongst non-heterosexual youth, and that once again responsibility for such tragedies rest on his shoulders, and those of people like him.

HappyClappingHomos.com would like to make a plea to those Christian groups sickened by Mr. Milne’s comments to join with us in condemnation. We would also like to provide a positive affirmation to those members of the community who are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender that despite comments such as those made by Mr. Milne, Brian Tamaki, the Maxim Institute and a host of others that now is the time to take pride in who you are, and to stand tall.
