Grant Gillon Progressive's candidate in Northcote

5 August 2005

Grant Gillon is Progressive's candidate in Northcote

The Progressive party has selected its president and housing spokesperson, Grant Gillon, as its candidate in Northcote where he will be campaigning for party votes, its General-Secretary Phil Clearwater said today.

"I am campaigning for Progressive party votes because I want my party to continue keeping the coalition government on track against strategic asset sales and getting things done to promote industry development," Grant Gillon, said.

"Progressive wants party votes so that we can make sure the next coalition government totally fulfills its economic and social responsibility to properly slash tertiary graduates' debt mountain and keeps our businesses competitive with a headline company tax rate cut to match Australia's.

"I have a strong interest in ensuring every family in New Zealand has the right to live in their own home and Progressive is also needed inside the next coalition government to remove barriers to home ownership with bold policies like our Capitalise Family Support package," Grant Gillon said.

"And, frankly, everyone knows that if Jim Anderton's party isn't well represented in the next government to deliver the tough decisions that are needed to turn the tide against youth binge drinking and other youth drug problems, then those tough policies that are needed will never be delivered," Grant Gillon said.
