Media release on behalf of the family of Olaf Wiig
The parents and family of Olaf Wiig have
today expressed their sincere gratitude to all those working
to help secure the release of Olaf and his colleague Steve
Centanni in Gaza.
Reverend Roger Wiig said he and other family members also wanted to thank Prime Minister Helen Clark who has telephoned them to offer her support.
“We are deeply grateful for the care that is being extended to us and for the Prime Minister’s direct call to us.
“We would also like to thank all those who are working to help get Olaf and Steve released, and we are thankful to have New Zealand diplomats on site.’’
Mr Wiig said Fox News also continued to provide strong support for his family, and to Mr Wiig’s wife Anita McNaught.
Mr Wiig said his family wanted to thank the media for their concern and courtesy over recent days.
However he said it had been a difficult and tiring week, and his family would like to spend some private time together.
They will not be available for media interviews today and would ask that the media respect this request for privacy.
