EPMU welcomes Solid Energy announcement
The Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union has welcomed Solid Energy’s announcement that it will continue operations at Spring Creek Underground Mine.
The mine provides employment for more than one hundred EPMU members and has been under threat of closure for over a year.
EPMU National Secretary Andrew Little says the announcement will be a relief for the miners.
“This has been a difficult time for our members and their families but this announcement will give them greater certainty about their financial futures.
“Workers have made some concessions to keep the mine going pending this plan and will be pleased to see that Solid Energy has recognised their efforts by investing in the future of this site.”
The EPMU represents Solid Energy workers across New Zealand.
