Last chance to make a big change with small change

MEDIA RELEASE

24 October 2006

Last chance to make a big change with your small change

This time next week, our old silver coins will be gone for good. So make sure you have emptied your pockets and purses, checked down the back of the couch, and raided the piggybank.

If you’re feeling generous, remember that charities around the country are collecting the old coins, and will happily save you a trip to the bank. Wellington’s Karori Wildlife Sanctuary has raised $8,250 so far in old silver coins. And it’s not too late to donate. With your help, they can reach $10,000! The Sanctuary’s Visitor Centre will be accepting donated coins until Friday 10 November.

“I am delighted with the response we’ve had so far, and would like to thank everybody who has given us their old coins. Every cent we receive will go towards the continued ecological restoration of the Sanctuary. The tuatara and kiwi may be disappearing from our silver coins, but they are thriving here in Wellington” says Sanctuary chief executive Nancy McIntosh-Ward.
