Reduce Climate Change and Power Bills

Press Release: Sustainability Trust

4th February 2007

Festival of the Elements, Porirua on Waitangi Day Have fun - Reduce Climate Change and Power Bills

“Porirua householders are invited to have fun, learn how to reduce their energy bills, and help reduce the damaging effects from climate change. All they have to do is come to the Sustainability Trust stall at the Festival of the Elements on February 6th!” said Fey Valiant, spokesperson for Sustainability Trust.

“A bright and comic ‘house’ awaits visitors to the Festival. The Sustainability Trust’s 'Energy Doctor' will be present to take bookings for energy assessment visits to residents’ houses, to discuss what can be done to make warmer, healthier homes, to lower household energy usage, and to help lower power and gas bills” said Ms Valiant.

The ‘Energy Savers Porirua’ project is offering Energy Doctor home energy checks for residents. The ‘Energy Doctor’ will visit residents’ homes to help you assess the best ways to make your home warmer, drier, healthier and more energy efficient.

For this year the Trust is concentrating its energy efficiency project in the suburb of Titahi Bay. The first 200 Titahi Bay residents to register will get their Energy Doctor visit for free. Others may need to pay a charge.

Government grants for approved low-income families, to help with the installation of insulation will be discussed by the Energy Doctor. Finance packages may be available to help other householders implementing energy efficiency work.

If you cannot get to the Festival, call the Trust on 04 389 5401 to make an Energy Doctor booking.

The Sustainability Trust’s “Energy Savers Porirua” project is supported by Porirua City Council, the Hutt Mana Charitable Trust, and the Ministry for the Environment’s Sustainable Management Fund.
