Party Pill King Shows Disregard for NZ Families

MEDIA RELEASE

Party Pill King Shows Blatant Disregard for Families of NZ

Matt Bowden’s proposed regulatory code for Party Pills will do more harm than good to New Zealand families.

Jennie Milne, of Focus on the Family’s How to DRUG PROOF YOUR KIDS says, “By continuing to ensure that Party Pills are legally available in New Zealand, Bowden is sending a clear message to children and families that its acceptable to use designer drugs.”

Focus on the Family NZ takes the firm view that any new substance being introduced into our communities for purely recreational drug use purposes should be made illegal until proven safe.

“We encourage parents to be proactive in warning their children of the potential dangers of these emerging products,” says Mrs. Milne, “These products have not been proven; the ingredients may not be fully listed; they may be laced with other more potent drugs; and we don’t know if they have addictive potential.”

“Like any drug, they are dangerous if misused and counsellors are reporting that they are regularly providing the base ingredient for a more ‘dangerous cocktail’ for our young people.”

All the International research about the associated health risks of Party Pills points to a need for extreme caution, which is why a large number of OECD nations have made them illegal.

Jennie Milne says that “If the New Zealand Government cares about protecting and nurturing our children and families, it will continue to tighten legislation around party pills containing BZP [benzlypiperazine] and TFMPP [triflurophenylmethylpiperazine], making them a Class C drug.”

This would send a clear message to our communities that our government does not encourage or accommodate recreational drug use.
