Solid Energy deal good news for workers
The Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union says the purchase of 49% of Spring Creek mine by global energy company Cargill will provide longer term job security for its members.
The purchase, which will leave Solid energy as 51% partner and operator, comes with a five year supply deal.
EPMU National Secretary Andrew Little says the purchase and supply agreement means workers now face a more certain future.
“Workers have worked hard to keep the mine viable in the past few years and they’ll be pleased to see that efforts are being rewarded with at least five more years of job security.
“This is good news for the West Coast too, as it means good quality unionised jobs will be staying in the community.”
The EPMU represents more than 100 workers at Spring Creek.
