Second Phase of Corrections Internal Review

Second Phase of Corrections Internal Review Announced
"Staff are being given the opportunity to comment on a proposal for change to Corrections' structure in the second phase of the internal review of Corrections, says Chief Executive Barry Matthews.
"The review of the Department's structure is something that I initiated last May. The first phase involved myself and my senior management team working with external consultants to review the structure of the Department.
"Whilst the Prime Minister has announced an intention to review the wider Criminal Justice Sector in terms of how it might best be organised, this is unrelated to the change proposal I am presenting. This proposal is for an internal reorganisation.
"The changes I propose aim to improve the alignment of functions departmentally to reinforce a one-Department approach, improve the regional alignment of operational responsibilities to ensure an integrated approach to our work, and to improve efficiency and effectiveness through consistency, quality, removing duplication, and establishing clear accountabilities. I believe these changes are necessary to ensure that performance is improved and that Corrections is best prepared for whatever the future may hold.
"Staff will have a month to comment on the proposal for change, after which the new internal structure will be finalised having taken into account their feedback.
"I am envisaging that the new structure will be in place by July", said Mr Matthews.
