Tribunal Report On The Northern South Island

WAITANGI TRIBUNAL REPORT RELEASED ON THE NORTHERN SOUTH ISLAND (TE TAU IHU O TE WAKA A MAUI) WAI 785

IN RESPONSE TO MEDIA ENQUIRIES RECEIVED TODAY (6 April 2007)

In reference to the Memorandum-Directions dated 30 March 2007 from Deputy Chief Judge W W Isaac, Presiding Officer on Te Tau Ihu O Te Waka A Maui - Northern South Island WAI 785...

A further preliminary report dealing with the customary rights of Te Tau Ihui iwi south of the Ngai Tahu statutorily defined takiwa will be issued prior to August 2007.

The main report, which will cover all other aspects of the Te Tau Ihu claims, is progressing. At this stage, however, the Waitangi Tribunal can not provide a date as to its completion.
