Earth Day A Chance To Reflect On A Waste
Free New Zealand
“Earth day in New Zealand this Sunday, should be spent reflecting on what we as a Country are doing with the estimated 10 million kilograms of waste we throw out every day, a lot of which ends up in landfills” says Wastesaver NZ Chief Executive John Fistonich.
Household waste is a mounting problem worldwide including New Zealand and the unsavoury fact is as populations grow the problem worsens, he said.
But Mr Fistonich explains that through an environmentally responsible technology developed over the last 20 years, Wastesaver Plants are able to process household rubbish and turn up to 90% of it into a useable product.
“That means that the amount of household waste requiring land fill will reduce by up to 90% and that’s a massive positive change for New Zealand’s environment and maintaining our international reputation of being clean and green” he said.
Mr Fistonich says the Waste Minimisation Bill currently before Parliament allows for waste minimisation and management plans that would support Wastesaver Plants in New Zealand, which are currently being reviewed by a number of New Zealand Councils.
“By reducing waste volumes by up to 90% and recovering all available recyclables, it is in line with the Governments zero waste policy and is a truly long term solution to a sustainable New Zealand”.
“Wastesaver Plants installed in New Zealand will make a useful contribution to Earth Day every year by dealing with household rubbish in an environmentally responsible manner”.
Wastesaver NZ are also currently in discussions with a number of overseas Countries who have expressed an interest in the Wastesaver process.
