Independent Review of the New Zealand Press Council – Date for Submissions Extended – Media Release – 27 April 2007
Sir Ian Barker and Professor Lewis Evans are currently conducting a review of the New Zealand Press Council, which was announced on 13 March 2007. This is the first review of the Council, which since 1972 has provided a free complaints process for readers that sought to encourage high-quality and ethical journalism and a free press.
The review focuses on the Council’s aims, objects,
scope of activities and resources. Further information

the review has been extended to Monday, 14 May 2007 to allow
interested parties adequate time to prepare
submissions. Your submissions are important for a
constructive review of the Council, which should operate
consistently with the expectations of the
