New Legal Research Products Revolutionary

Monday 28th May 2007

Thomson Brookers says its new online case law research products, FindCase and CiteCase, will revolutionise New Zealand legal research.

The products were launched on 23rd May 2007.

FindCase is a full-text searchable database of more than 40,000 judgments from the High Court, Court of Appeal, Privy Council and Supreme Court.

CiteCase, an online case citator, covers more than 85,000 reported and unreported cases, including leading overseas judgements, and shows the ‘Litigation History’ of a case, as well as any citing treatments by other judgments.

Thomson Brookers’ Managing Director, Neil Story, said the two products set new benchmarks for legal research in New Zealand.

“New Zealand lawyers and information professionals now have access to the same standards of case law research as their counterparts overseas,” he said.

“Indeed, CiteCase’s depth of coverage means that New Zealand now has better case citator capability than many other Commonwealth jurisdictions.”

Mr Story said that online case citators are well-established and standard legal research tools in the United States, and have been for a number of years. He believed the same would happen for CiteCase in New Zealand.

“Thomson Brookers has invested significant time and effort in the development of these two landmark products. We are proud of our achievement, and very pleased that New Zealand’s legal profession can now use world-class research products,” he said.
