Representatives visit Muliaga family

Mighty River Power and Mercury Energy representatives visit Muliaga family

Two matai and a Samoan minister today led Mighty River Power Chair Carole Durbin, Chief Executive Doug Heffernan and Mercury Energy General Manager James Moulder on a visit to the family of Mrs Muliaga.

The group followed Fa’a Samoa protocols.

When Ms Durbin and the Mighty River Power visitors arrived at the home, it was apparent that Mr Muliaga was absent from the house, so the visiting group advised the family that they would wait until he returned.

The family then very generously invited the Mighty River Power group into their home. The matai explained the company’s position to the family and the family responded.

After presenting a traditional gift of fine mats, Ms Durbin gave koha to the family towards funeral expenses.

A spokesperson for the Muliaga family said, ”we accept your spirit of remorse and hope the cloud above you can now be lifted.”

Mr Heffernan said “we are deeply grateful to the family that we were able to express our feelings to them and for the spirit of forgiveness with which we were received.”
