Select Committee Presents Racist Report

NEWS RELEASE - ONE NEW ZEALAND FOUNDATION INC

SELECT COMMITTEE PRESENTS RACIST REPORT

While the Maori Affairs Select Committee took into account submissions by the claimants, they made no mention in their report of the submissions by those opposing the Te Roroa Settlement Bill.

The documented evidence supplied by the opposing submissions show, the claim is a fraud, most of the claimants are not Te Roroa, it breaches the Treaty of Waitangi and the sale agreement and deed to purchase land for this claim have been tampered with by the Crown, a matter being investigated by the Ombudsman’s Office.

We also believe, Select Committee members had a vested interest in this claim and the reason for it being recommended without mention of the above concerns or opposing submissions. The ethnic balance of the committee was extremely one sided (8-1) – a fact brought to the Speaker’s attention initially and now shown in their "racially bias" report. Non-Maori submissions were not taken into account in this report. It must be remembered, we are all New Zealanders!!!

A Select Committee must look at all submissions and give a fair, unbiased report on their findings. This has not occurred in this instance as shown by this very racist report and the omission of any reference to submissions opposing the Settlement Bill. Their report is based solely on allowing this Bill to proceed in Te Roroa’s favour without the evidence to substantiate it.

We ask the Speaker of the House, the Rt Hon Margaret Wilson to reject this “racially bias” report and order a public inquiry into the claim, the claimants and the tampering with documents by the Crown to purchase land for this claim.

The Maori Affairs Select Committee’s report into the Te Roroa Settlement Bill is based on race, not on a fair evaluation of the evidence available and submissions presented.
