May Drowning Toll at Five
Four non recreational drowning fatalities contributed to a total of five drowning deaths for the month of May according to statistics released by Water Safety New Zealand (WSNZ).
48 New Zealanders have drowned thus far this year. At the same time last year there had been 40 drowning deaths recorded in New Zealand.
The month of May is the first month for 2007 that the monthly toll is below that of the equivalent month in 2006 when there were seven drownings.
