Pacific Community Fono – Kiwi Saver
The Deputy Prime Minister the Hon Dr Michael Cullen is a guest speaker at a Pacific Community Fono aimed at enhancing the community’s understanding of the benefits in signing up for the new Kiwi Saver Scheme. The fono is being hosted by the Pasifika Education Centre & the Pacific Business Trust
Fono Organiser and Manukau City Councillor Su’a William Sio is a strong supporter of the scheme. “Kiwi Saver provides a vehicle to achieve the social & economic aspirations of the Pacific communities in New Zealand.” said Councillor Sio. “Kiwi Saver will significantly increase the economic security of our communities in the future by saving now. It is important that as a people we embrace Kiwi Saver and take up every opportunity available with it.”
Chairperson of the Pasifika Education Centre Board Clyde Young is also a strong advocate for pacific people to sign up for Kiwi Saver. “Kiwi Saver will give pacific people in retirement choices and opportunities.” said Mr Young
Mr Young says that Kiwi Saver provides economic certainty in retirement for our Pacific people. “Financial security will enable not only a healthier community in retirement, but the ability for those of our people in retirement to contribute socially and economically more to our children’s future, enable easier movement between New Zealand and the Islands, and make a more meaningful contribution to our communities .”
