POW Pokies!
POW Pokies!
An exciting range of T-shirts promoting the dangers of pokie machines and their link to problem gambling are now on sale from the Problem Gambling Foundation.
The designer tees were created by Massey University fashion and textile students charged with making the social issue of problem gambling known in the market place.
Downtown Community Ministry has many clients who admit to problem gambling behaviour. Some regularly see us for food parcels and others are part of the Street People Project banking programme.
All say pokies are their biggest gambling trap.
But, sadly to the wider public, pokie use remains a hidden addiction.
DCM Director Stephanie McIntyre says, “The damage pokies do to people in our community must be exposed. We’re totally in favour of promotions like these that bring more attention to it.”
