NZ sovereignty lies with New Zealanders, not UN

New Zealand’s sovereignty lies with New Zealanders, not the United Nations, says Direct Democracy.

“It is time for New Zealanders to reclaim their sovereignty from those who seek to sell our sovereignty to the highest bidder” says Deputy Leader of the Direct Democracy Party (www.ddp.co.nz) Steve Taylor.

“The breathless enthusiasm of the Minister of Women’s Affairs Lianne Dalziel that she will be able to kowtow to the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (known as CEDAW), by ratifying the killing of New Zealand women in front line combat is repugnant” says Mr Taylor.

“It seems that New Zealand ratified the CEDAW Convention in 1985, and has been repeatedly encouraged by the United Nations to place our women in the firing line just as quickly as possible – yet I don’t recall the majority of New Zealand women (or men for that matter), being consulted on the matter” says Mr Taylor.

“According to the twisted “Alice in Wonderland” logic of the Minister, using the potentially future mothers and co-nurturers of our nations children as international cannon fodder somehow promotes and protects the rights of women around the world. If the Minister believes that New Zealand women have the “right to die” in combat, then surely these same women (and the families who love them) have the right to be consulted about whether they have the wish to die in combat” says Mr Taylor.

“Once again, our sovereignty as a people and as a nation is being illegally and arbitrarily gifted to the United Nations, an organisation that has no statutory or legitimate sovereign hold on New Zealand or New Zealanders – we have seen this in the ratification by New Zealand representatives (with no mandate to do so) of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCROC), again without the consultation or consent of New Zealanders, and we are seeing it with the CEDAW ratification:.

"Interestingly however, when the United Nations called for New Zealand to ratify the 2004 DOHA Declaration, reaffirming international commitments to strengthen the role of family, marriage, fathers, mothers, and the protection of children http://www.familyfirst.org.nz/index.cfm/DOHA_Declaration.html, the Labour Government and its UN representatives ran like rabbits from doing so".

“There is coming a time when New Zealanders as a people will first realise, and then decide that they can reclaim their sovereignty from Government, and from International Treaty organisations that most new Zealanders had no say in ratifying".

"The method for New Zealanders to claim their sovereignty back is through the process of Direct Democracy, whereby New Zealand citizens can hold Governments and MPs to account via binding Referendum, representative Recall, and a written Constitution”.

“I am sure that, for the majority of New Zealanders, that time cannot come soon enough” says Mr Taylor.
