Two weeks left to make a ‘World of Difference’
Substance abuse, low self-confidence and lack of support are just some of the issues identified by Kiwis as serious obstacles facing New Zealand youth.
Eighty percent of applications for the World of Difference programme to date have come from North Islanders and focus on causes aimed at helping troubled young Kiwis.
With just two weeks to go before entries close, the Vodafone New Zealand Foundation is calling on more passionate people to see the potential in young New Zealanders and apply.
The capacity building World of Difference programme pays the salaries and expenses of up to six Kiwis a year so they can spend 12 months working for their chosen youth-related cause.
This year’s recipients are working in a wide range of areas from helping to raise awareness of the importance of our youth to the nation’s social and economic development, to providing fatherless boys with suitable male mentors, and teaching hip-hop to talented, but at risk, teenagers in South Auckland.
All five recipients from 2006 live in the North Island.
The World of Difference programme is open to all New Zealand residents aged over 18 years. Entries close Wednesday, September 19 2007 and must be completed and submitted online at www.worldofdifference.co.nz.
