NSW Police - Our Presence at APEC

APEC 2007 Leaders' Week 2 - 9 September

In 2007 the Australian Government will host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum. APEC is the pre-eminent forum for facilitating economic growth and prosperity through the promotion of cooperation, trade and investment liberalisation in the Asia-Pacific region.

From January to September 2007 over 100 days of ministerial, officials-level and business- meetings will be hosted across the country. Hosting the APEC Australia 2007™ year will provide Australia with an opportunity to showcase its unique and diverse business, society and culture to influential constituencies within the region and to the wider international community.

The APEC Australia 2007™ year will culminate in Sydney on the 2 - 9 September with APEC Leaders Week. Meetings held during this week include the bringing together of leaders of major regional economies, thousands of delegates, support personnel and the international media, and is one of the most important annual meetings of world leaders.

Security preparations will be comprehensive and will involve the full range of Australian Government security agencies, working cooperatively with the relevant state and territory governments, the police services and local authorities as required.

To this end, the APEC 2007 NSW Police Security Command has been established to develop, coordinate and implement all facets of NSW Security for APEC Leaders Week. The NSW Police Force is the lead agency in relation to security for the event.

The NSW Police Force has been planning for this series of meetings since 2005. Our aim at all times, is to minimise disruptions to the business and residential community of the CBD, while providing a safe and secure environment for visiting leaders, delegates and their guests.
