“Failures in our workforce start in the education system, and the ongoing effects will impact severely on our labour force and economy,” says Republicans employment spokesman Dave Llewell.

Mr Llewell is backing calls by Republicans Education spokesman Paul Haynes to allow work experience for 15 year olds, and to bring back a full apprenticeship programme.

We need to get a couple of things straight in this country, says Llewell,

“Firstly, in the male dominated hard yard industries you need practical experience. A piece of paper doesn’t do the work for you, and on the job training from the experienced in their trade is the only way.”

Secondly, the girls aren’t here to do the hard work, and if we can’t teach boys properly at school, we cut our country off at the knees, before our young men even hit the workforce.

Further, said Llewell. “The rising average age in physical industries is a warning for us, of more problems in the near future. If we do not improve education opportunities for boys, our skills shortage will not improve. The lack of education and physical training of our young men will drag our economy into 3rd world status in a very short time.”

Are we going to just let this happen? asks Llewell.
