March for Freedom in Wellington - this Saturday
25 October 2007
Press Release – for immediate release
From: Organisers of march in support for those arrested in the 'terror' raids
Supporters of those arrested in the so-called 'terror' raids on October 15 will march in Wellington on Saturday 27 October as part of an international day of solidarity for the prisoners.
The marchers are asking for the release of all prisoners; the charges to be dropped; and for the repeal of the Terrorism Suppression Act and its upcoming amendment.
"We find it appalling that in our supposedly 'free' country, the Terrorism Suppression Act allows people to be imprisoned for their political beliefs" said Felicity Perry, one of the organisers of the March.
The marchers will meet at Midland Park on Lambton Quay at 12noon and will march to Civic Square to listen to speakers, local musicians, and hear messages from those arrested.
"The arrests are another act in the long history of colonisation in Aotearoa, once again those who advocate tino rangatiratanga are being locked up," Perry said.
"There is widespread support throughout New Zealand and the world for those arrested," said Perry. Protests are occurring in Auckland, Christchurch, Hamilton, Whanganui, Melbourne, London, Berlin, San Francisco, Ottawa, and Mexico.
