New Zealand Red Cross pledges support to flood relief efforts in Vietnam

The affects of Typhoon Lekima which struck Vietnam in early October continue to wreak havoc in the country. As relief efforts intensify, New Zealand Red Cross has pledged $11 700 to fund recovery programmes that will target 193,000 people across the country over the next 12 months.

While a month has passed since Typhoon Lekima struck, many communities in Vietnam are living in temporary shelters and for some it remains a struggle to source basic necessities such as food and clean water.

The donation will contribute to the emergency appeal launched by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in support of Red Cross Viet Nam who is working at a grass roots level to improve the lives of the most vulnerable throughout the country.

New Zealand Red Cross maintains a close relationship with Red Cross National Societies in the Asia-Pacific region. We will continue our partnership with Red Cross Viet Nam by providing an annual grant to support their health and community based first aid initiatives.
