Christchurch Open Rescue Strikes Again
Press Release: CHRISTCHURCH OPEN RESCUE
17/01/08

Christchurch Open Rescue has struck again opposing battery farming in the Canterbury region, rescuing 31 young hens from a life of caged misery. The action was carried out in solidarity with Mark Eden, an Open Rescue member in Wellington who is currently facing charges for his role in a rescue at a Foxton farm. The birds have all been provided with new homes where they can live out their lives free to exhibit their natural behaviours

Mark Eden is appearing in the District Court on January 18th. "We have recently rescued another 31 hens to show the industry that even if they press charges, more and more people are willing to actively condemn the industry and take action to free them. Open Rescue is growing nationwide, we have continued support and many more people wanting to join our group" said Christchurch Open Rescue member Tracey Brown.

"2.5 million birds nation wide live their lives in misery in order for factory farmers to reap massive profits off the sale of caged cruelty" said Tracey.

Another Open Rescue member, Rebecca McCready, said "In the last 6 months, Christchurch Open Rescue has freed 100 hens, and other Open Rescue groups around the country have freed even more, as well as extensively documenting the vile practices that hold up this horrific industry".

The group has plans to increase its level of action this year and calls upon all those concerned with battery hen farming to act on their conscience.
