TEAR fund launches appeal for Myanmar victims
As Myanmar (Burma) reels from the
devastation wrought by Cyclone Nargis, TEAR Fund has
launched an emergency appeal to help its victims. TEAR Fund
is responding through its long-established, local partners,
to provide emergency relief.
TEAR Fund NZ executive director, Stephen Tollestrup said, “The death toll is likely to rise from 10,000 as aid efforts reach more isolated areas, and already there are many thousands still not accounted for.
“With more than 100,000 left homeless, the immediate needs are for water, sanitation, shelter, blankets and food.”
TEAR Fund is satisfied that its regional partners can access the victims of the tragedy and provide this necessary emergency aid, said Mr Tollestrup.
To donate to this emergency appeal call 0800 800 777 or visit www.tearfund.org.nz
Note: TEAR stands for The Evangelical Alliance Relief Fund, so the first word is capitalised.
