Who Will Be Allowed To Be Born?
Right to Life in defence of life, is opposed to the recommendation of the Bioethics Council that parents have a right to choose the sex of their children. Sex selection through IVF and Pre Implantation Diagnosis is immoral and unethical. It is a further step towards designer babies, it is eugenics and constitutes a search and destroy mission.
Sex selection entails the destruction of human embryos that are not of the sex chosen, this is a violation of the human rights of those embryos destroyed.
Sex selection is a further step on the slippery slope. If parents are permitted to choose the sex of their children, why should they not choose the colour of their children’s hair and eyes?
The deliberate destruction of human embryos is a violation of God’s fifth commandment, “Thou shalt not kill.” And gives grave offence to the Creator.
China, with its one child family policy, permits abortion to select the sex of the child. This policy with a preference for male children has distorted the demographics of China. There are now many millions more Chinese males than females. The result is that these males will not be able to marry and have a family.
Human life begins at conception. At the moment of conception the human embryo is endowed by its Creator with human rights, the foundation of these rights is an inalienable right to life. From conception, the human embryo should be accorded the respect that is given to the person.
May our society continue to
welcome all children made in the image and likeness of
God.
May we welcome them as unique and unrepeatable
miracles of His loving creation.
Sex selection emanates from a culture of death, the same culture that has given us abortion, the killing of unborn children. We all have a duty to defend life. Right to Life calls upon the government to defend life by upholding the law prohibiting sex selection.
