EPMU welcomes Electoral Commission decision
The Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union welcomes the Electoral Commission’s decision to register the union as a third party.
Prior to the decision the union’s third party status had been challenged by the National Party.
EPMU national secretary Andrew Little says he is pleased to see common sense has prevailed.
“We never doubted we were in compliance with the law and despite legal obfuscation from the National Party we were always confident we would be registered.
“We will continue to run an issues-based campaign as planned, but third party registration gives us an extra protection against frivolous attacks from our opponents.
“The role of third parties is crucial to democratic debate and we will continue to campaign on the issues that matter to our members.”
The EPMU will be running 25 mass member rallies across New Zealand this August to highlight the importance of stronger work rights and higher wages. For more information visit www.workrights.org.nz.
