Muffin Break Bean Poll Puts National In The Lead

Muffin Break Bean Poll Puts National In The Lead

With more than 12,500 votes cast in the first few days of the Muffin Break Bean Poll, the results show National well in the lead.

National’s share of the Bean Poll is 40%, with Labour on 27% and the Greens third on 11%. NZ First sits on 7%, with votes for the “others” making up the remainder.

The Bean Poll, which has been remarkably accurate in the previous two New Zealand elections and in Australia last year, allows customers at the 38 Muffin Break stores nationwide to vote - via coffee bean - for their preferred party.

“The Bean Poll is a fun and quirky way to gauge the mood of the nation leading up to the 2008 election,” says Muffin Break general manager Garry Croft.

“It’s not scientific but it’s proven to be surprisingly on the money in the past. While it’s early days, the trend is definitely towards a change in the Bean-hive.”

In Winston Peter’s Tauranga electorate, the Bean Poll has National and NZ First neck and neck with 25% each, while, in Peter Dunne’s Ohariu patch, National is well ahead on 44%. Labour is in front in Jim Anderton’s area of Wigram.

Weekly Bean Poll results are being posted on www.muffinbreak.co.nz
