Pimp Your Politician Election 08

Foghorn.co.nz, the New Zealand-wide online neighbourhood, is giving Kiwis the chance to win prizes by creating their own Election 08 billboards.

“We’ve been sent photos of defaced election billboards,” Foghorn founder Erin Fogarty says. “We decided that rather than encourage people to arm themselves with marker pens to draw facial hair, devil horns or googly-eyes on political billboards we would provide them with fresh images they can download and digitally enhance to their heart’s content.”

Anyone can go to the Foghorn.co.nz website and download an unsullied billboard image from the 2008 election campaign. Using any photo-editing software such as Paint Shop Pro and Photoshop, they can create a poster to produce the election promise and type of politician they’d like to see running the country.

“This digital solution means nobody has to risk limb or liberty by having a go at that election billboard on the street corner,” says Erin Fogarty. “We believe the Prime Minister is a bit of an artist and we’re hoping she might find a moment to give herself the makeover she really desires.”

When complete, the billboard images can be uploaded to the Foghorn website – http://foghorn.co.nz – in time for competition voting which begins on November 5.

“It’s a very democratic process. People will be able to vote online for their favourite billboard. Each person is entitled to one vote just like the ‘other’ elections. The winners, in the order of the most votes received, will choose from a prizepool which we hope will grow as the competition progresses.”
