ETS will hinder economic growth
ETS will hinder economic growth
Kiwi Party leader
Larry Baldock renewed his party's call for the repealing of
the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS).
"The predicted slowdown of the world economy, as a result of the current financial crisis, will do more to reduce emissions than Kyoto or our own ETS. Here in New Zealand we must remove any artificial and unnecessary restraints on our economy, especially our small to medium businesses, if we are to compete in a tougher global economy," Mr Baldock said.
"Having a strong economy is essential to all of the nation's plans to maintain a healthy environment. The Kiwi Party would maintain investment in research and development also. This is as an essential step in finding not only new innovative business developments, but also the technological answers to our challenging environmental problems as well.
"It was disappointing to hear John Key announce plans to scrap the tax credits in order to pay for tax cuts. This is very short sighted in our opinion," said Mr Baldock.
