Parliament condoning indecency?

Former MP and Family Party deputy leader Paul Adams says responsible authorities would not permit the planned boobs on bikes to go ahead. And the speaker of the house should most certainly not permit the parade to occur on parliament grounds.

"I would be seriously concerned if the Speaker has approved this kind of highly offensive activity on parliament grounds. It is offensive to the vast majority of New Zealanders and an indictment on parliament if it has been permitted," says Mr Adams.

The Family Party opposed the boobs on bikes parade in Auckland, claiming current law already prevented offensive behaviour from occurring in the public domain but the authorities lacked the courage to enact it.

"Current law already deals with offences of public indecency measured against the conscience of community. To say the boobs on bikes parade is not offensive and therefore not enforceable, is a cop-out and reflects poorly on New Zealand's leadership. When will parliament protect innocent families and children?" he added.

Mr Adams says he had spoken to the issues public decency in Parliament many times and that the Family Party is committed to upholding appropriate standards of public decency.
