New collective agreement for SKYCITY Auckland signed

Members of the Service and Food Workers Union Nga Ringa Tota at SKYCITY Auckland are pleased to have a new collective agreement signed, after 6 months of negotiations.

The new agreement, effective from 1 October 2008 - 31 December 2010 means that members who have been working at SKYCITY for 3 years or more will earn a minimum of $15 per hour.

Workers at SKYCITY are now covered by a single collective agreement and have the choice of joining either of the two unions on the site.

Jill Ovens, SFWU Northern Regional Secretary says the new agreement means a pay increase of 5% for all employees, with a further 4% increase from 1 January 2010.

"Our members are really pleased with the agreement because union members will get two lump sum payments, which will not be passed on to non-union freeloaders!" she says.

A full time employee working 40hrs a week will receive $500 gross within 14 days of ratification and then another $200 if they are still working for SKYCITY on 1 January 2010.

The package also includes recognition of long service for employees with more than 5 years service.

There is also an allowance for 'unpleasant duties', for which the cleaners, groundspeople and trades assistants have been fighting for years.
